The door to the VIP room slowly opened, and Leng Yiyao stepped out. The security guards and senior executives at the entrance lifted their heads slightly, glancing at their boss’s expression. To their shock, he actually took a step forward, hooked her veil with his fingers, and personally helped her put it back on.

For a moment, their faces showed astonishment.

However, everyone standing here was a seasoned professional. They immediately adjusted their expressions, stepping respectfully aside and waiting for further instructions.

A young man in a white robe steadied his gaze. Seeing Xi Le fasten her veil and then motion toward him, he quickly bowed and stepped forward.

“Take her to the car and wait for me. We’ll head to the Leng family afterwards.”

As for himself, he naturally had to deal with Zhai Mu first.

The young man in the white robe was named Aili. Ever since his parents died, he had been following Xi Le, and the entire city knew he was the gambling king’s most trusted aide.

Now, seeing that Xi Le had personally instructed him to escort this young lady, his gaze toward Leng Yiyao changed to one of deep reverence.

The Leng family…

Aili pondered silently.

The eldest daughter of the Leng family was a legendary figure across the empire, known to all. In contrast, the second daughter had always remained in the shadows of her sister’s brilliance. He had followed Xi Le on several occasions when meeting Leng Yiyao before, but never had he seen his master treat her with such seriousness.

And today, the dynamic seemed reversed. Before, it was always Leng Yiyao who showered Xi Le with enthusiasm, while he remained indifferent.

But today…

Raising his head, he saw that beneath her veil, only a pair of cool, distant eyes were visible. When her gaze fell on him, it felt as though she could see straight through to his soul.

His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately nodded, bowing as he led the way for her.

Leng Yiyao was actually tempted to stay behind and listen to the conversation between Xi Le and Zhai Mu.

But considering how everyone around her was treating her like a fragile porcelain doll, standing guard with full vigilance, she lazily stretched her arms and decided not to stir up trouble.

As the group escorted her grandly toward the underground garage, Xi Le had already led Zhai Mu into his office.

Despite the earlier commotion caused by the two foreign troublemakers, the casino’s business remained unaffected. In fact, as time passed, more and more guests arrived.

Yet, Xi Le’s office felt like an entirely different world, sealed off from the lively chaos outside. Inside, an eerie silence hung in the air.

“I heard you saved Yaoyao last night. I must thank you properly,” Xi Le said, lighting a cigarette and taking a slow drag. “After all… there aren’t many good-hearted people left in the world.”

His tone was layered with deeper meaning. Earlier, when talking to Leng Yiyao, he realised she had at least been cautious enough not to reveal her true identity or name, only introducing herself as ‘Leng Yao’ to this man.

Calling her ‘Yaoyao’ came naturally to him, making it sound as though their relationship was quite close.

Zhai Mu chuckled carelessly, as if it was no big deal. “It was just a coincidence.”

He assumed Xi Le was referring to how he had taken her into the cellar, treated her wounds, and ensured she had food.

“But with the city under martial law right now, killing someone makes you an easy suspect,” Xi Le remarked, scrutinising Zhai Mu’s expression.

This man was deeply calculative, his mind unfathomable. No matter what was said, he simply brushed it off with a smile.

Xi Le had encountered plenty of self-proclaimed clever people in the business world. He wasn’t wary of those who wore their intelligence on their sleeves—what truly unsettled him were those whose thoughts remained completely unreadable.

He suddenly recalled Leng Yiyao’s mischievous smirk before she left and frowned internally. Just what kind of person had she provoked…?

Zhai Mu blinked in surprise, then chuckled as if he had just heard the most amusing joke. His eyes locked onto Xi Le’s, gleaming with a dangerous edge.

“She said… I was the one who killed them?”
