Zhai Mu’s gaze carried a dangerous edge, with a subtle undertone. His tone seemed casual, yet there was an unmistakable chill beneath it.

Xi Le’s mind paused for a moment, his first reaction being—what did he mean by that?

If Zhai Mu wasn’t the one who killed them, could it have been Leng Yiyao?

She was just a young girl, barely fifteen or sixteen. While she might not have been as favoured as her older sister, she still grew up in luxury, surrounded by servants. She had never lifted a heavy object in her life, let alone killed someone. If someone were to shift the blame, they should at least pick a more reasonable scapegoat.

Xi Le let out a cold laugh, lowering his gaze without responding.

Zhai Mu raised an eyebrow knowingly.

If he hadn’t witnessed the entire killing himself, even he wouldn’t have believed that such a delicate-looking girl could take two lives in the blink of an eye.

The key was her composure.

His fingers tapped lightly on the armrest of his chair.

Even when he discovered her killing someone, she hadn’t shown the slightest trace of shock. Even when he treated her wounds—despite being unconscious—she never made a sound. That level of endurance was telling.

Not just in D City, but across the entire empire, the man before him—who had dominated the gambling world before the age of thirty—was considered deeply shrewd and perceptive.

And yet, that only made him more curious.

Did Xi Le truly have no idea of her real nature and abilities? Or was he deliberately playing along, shifting the murder charge onto him?

If it were the former… a woman who could conceal her true self under the nose of the gambling king…

Zhai Mu’s lips curved into a meaningful smile.

“She was injured. When I found her, she was already unconscious.” He deliberately sidestepped the question of who had actually killed the rapists, making it sound like a casual remark.

But Xi Le’s composed demeanour immediately cracked.

“What did you say? She was injured?” His expression darkened instantly.

She hadn’t mentioned a single word about it when she was with him.

Hearing the shift in his tone, Zhai Mu glanced up and saw the storm brewing in Xi Le’s eyes.

Realising the misunderstanding, he was about to clarify—then changed his mind.

That girl had knowingly twisted the story, making it sound misleading on purpose. She would have to deal with the consequences of that when she returned. Why should he go out of his way to clear things up for her?

With an air of indifference, Zhai Mu stood up, not bothering to acknowledge the expression on Xi Le’s face. He simply pushed the door open and walked out.

The gambling king, huh…

One of the wealthiest and most powerful men in D City.

And yet, he seemed quite concerned about that “Leng Yao.”

Zhai Mu lowered his gaze and chuckled softly.

Three years away from D City, and now he had encountered someone truly interesting.

As he walked out of the casino, a group of men suddenly emerged from the shadows across the street.

Their movements were synchronized, their expressions calm, heads lowered as they awaited his command.

Zhai Mu tilted his head slightly, glancing back at the casino.

So, her casual gesture back there had not been random.

By now, she had probably returned to where she was supposed to be.

Despite all their interactions, he had still failed to uncover her true identity—only that she had a close relationship with the gambling king.

It had been a long time since a woman had piqued his interest like this.

Even if… she was still just a little girl who hadn’t fully grown up yet.

With a casual wave of his hand, he dismissed the men waiting for his orders.

“Disperse.”

The moment he spoke, the figures standing at the roadside instantly turned and vanished into the crowd, disappearing without a trace.

Just as he was about to leave, his phone suddenly rang…
