Gu Jiu prevents Gu Ting from killing Xie Xian, seeing him as useful. Zhao San is asked to deal with Xie Xian instead, and Gu Jiu prepares prescriptions as a thank you gift for Liu Zhao. Gu Jiu asks Gu Ting to have Xie Xian and his servants thrown at Xie er laoye‘s courtyard and instructs Li Chuan on what to say to Gu daren.
Zhao San seeks Gu Jiu’s help for Liu Zhao’s worsening injury. Liu Zhao sends a letter describing his condition to Gu Jiu. Gu Jiu provides a revised prescription and instructions. Gu Jiu tries to discern Liu Zhao’s identity, wondering if he is connected to the imperial family and decides to distance herself from Liu Zhao to avoid trouble.
Liu Zhao tests Gu Jiu’s prescription on a dog before using it himself and finds it effective. Xie er laoye anticipates proposing marriage between Xie Xian and Gu Jiu, but is shocked to find his injured son at his doorstep.
Gu daren learns about Xie Xian’s attack on Gu Jiu and decides to retaliate against the Xie family. He seals up Xie family’s businesses in Jinzhou and invites Xie er laoye for tea. Gu daren confronts Xie shi about Xie Xian and forbids her from interfering in Xie family’s affairs.
Xie shi realizes the extent of Gu daren‘s anger and understands that her plan has failed. She reflects on her misjudgment of Gu Jiu and resents Xie Xian.
Bai yiniang discusses Gu Jiu and Xie shi‘s conflict with Gu Lin, recognizing Gu Jiu’s deeper mind and advises Gu Lin to learn from her. Gu Ting informs Gu Jiu that Gu daren is seizing Xie family’s assets in Jinzhou. Gu Jiu explains that Gu daren is using the situation to gain wealth through seizing Xie family’s businesses.
Xie er laoye is detained and confronted by Gu daren, who accuses him of plotting to steal Buddhist treasures, framing him. Gu daren forces Xie er laoye to sign documents that lead to the confiscation of Xie family’s properties. Xie er laoye is given two days to leave Jinzhou.
Xie family’s father and son leave Jinzhou. Xie er laoye instructs Chun He to tell Xie shi to proceed with their plan and reclaim the confiscated assets.
Gu Jiu and Gu Ting visit zhuangzi. Gu Jiu meeting Gui mama. Gui mama describes Su shi and reveals that Su shi asked Gu daren to marry Gu Jiu to someone far away from the capital. Gu Jiu says she is not like her mother and that she needs Gui mama’s help to be her eyes and ears. Gu Jiu finds out that Gao Erfu is using Gui mama’s sons as free labour. Gu Jiu and Gu Ting find out about Gao Erfu’s embezzlement and blackmail him into giving Gui mama’s sons’ indentures of servitude to them.
