Update:
Here’s a schedule of the novels I’m translating. I’ve built up a bank and I have enough chapters of each for the next couple of months (cross my heart and hope to die).
MMPMH: Mon/Thu/Sun
Top Giants: Tue/Wed/Sat/Sun
Stepmother: Mon/Fri
“Yaoyao, I misspoke just now. Please don’t be like this…”
But don’t be like what exactly? She didn’t say, leaving those around them to fill in the blanks themselves.
Leng Yirou lowered her gaze slightly, appearing to accept everything Leng Yiyao had just said without complaint. She neither accused her younger sister of embarrassing her in public nor called her out for being too harsh. Instead, she simply smiled, as if these were just trivial matters that she never took to heart. She played the role of the ever-forgiving elder sister perfectly, even taking all the blame upon herself without hesitation.
Leng Yiyao chuckled inwardly. If this elder sister lacked intelligence, she certainly made up for it with emotional finesse. A single sentence from her could carry multiple meanings.
No wonder Xi Le had been close to their family for so long yet still had no clue about the true nature of things.
“What exactly are they doing?” She couldn’t be bothered to engage in verbal sparring with her esteemed sister, so she simply sidestepped the bizarre conversation and focused on something that actually interested her.
From the remnants of memory in her mind, she knew that the real decision-makers in the Leng family were still her father and brother. Compared to typical D City families, they were slightly more progressive—willing to send their daughters abroad for education—but at their core, they remained unchanged. No matter how famous Leng Yirou was nationwide, at home, she was merely a well-dressed ornament.
Her sister had always been adept at reading people, her understanding of psychology nearly flawless. If something wasn’t of great importance, she would never personally intervene—preferring instead to maintain her perfect, amiable image. But for the entire household to be in such an uproar? That was definitely out of character for her.
However, the moment Leng Yiyao posed the question, Leng Yirou simply stared at her in astonishment.
For someone who had always been carefree and gluttonous, she had barely spoken two sentences since coming home today. Yet every word she uttered seemed impossible to respond to.
“What? Did I say something I shouldn’t have?” Leng Yiyao raised an eyebrow, genuinely intrigued now. The entire household was bustling with activity, yet as the rightful young mistress of the Leng family—not some outsider—she couldn’t even ask why?
“Of course not,” Leng Yirou replied with a gentle smile, quickly trying to soothe the situation. “You know I’ve been sick and bedridden these past few days. I only heard from our brother that Father has an important friend passing through D City—someone he hasn’t seen in many years. So he wanted to prepare some valuable gifts and have a proper reunion.”
What kind of ‘important friend’ required such an extravagant display?
Even gift-giving followed a hierarchy. The nature of the gift depended on the recipient’s status. The type of wine served reflected the relationship between the giver and the guest.
Leng Yiyao glanced at a coral sculpture that had just fallen to the floor and cracked at the edge. Judging by the Leng family’s gift standards, the recipient’s status was far beyond what they could realistically afford to court.
Xi Le, who had remained silent until now, suddenly seemed to realise something upon hearing this. His face turned cold in an instant. Without looking at Leng Yiyao, he simply lifted his gaze toward Leng Yirou, standing on the second floor. “Where is your brother?” he asked in an indifferent tone.
Leng Yirou froze, instinctively clutching the phone in her palm, unsure whether she should call her brother back.
Unlike Leng Yiyao, Xi Le wasn’t someone who could be easily deceived. But their father and brother had spent a fortune just to find out that an important figure from the military world would be arriving in D City today. They had painstakingly prepared these gifts in hopes of making a connection. And now, of all people, this troublemaker had stumbled upon the situation?
“Da ge is busy at the company. If there’s something—” She was just about to say that she could pass on the message when Xi Le suddenly gave her a cold, mocking smile. Without another word, he turned and walked away, not even bothering to leave a single remark behind…
