Towering skyscrapers stretched into the sky, cruise ships with white sails glided across the city’s central lake, and jewellery stalls lined the streets in dazzling rows…

Was this really the desert? This looked more like…

“Beep—”

“Beep beep—”

A car horn blared behind her as a driver in a white robe sped past. The middle-aged man, clearly irritated by Leng Yiyao standing frozen at the intersection, cursed under his breath before honking again and zooming by. As he passed, he rolled down his window and flipped her the middle finger.

“Bumpkin! Get out of the way!”

Leng Yiyao didn’t even spare that fool a glance. Her gaze remained fixed on the golden city walls ahead, and internally, she was screaming—

What the actual hell?!

Someone, please explain why this so-called desert city was more extravagant than the city of Dubai she remembered from her past life!

“Why are you staring at the wall like that?” The man’s deep, amused voice pulled her from her daze. Ever since they had left the cellar, she had been acting strangely. Was it because of her injuries?

Leng Yiyao took a deep breath and pointed at the towering, gleaming wall. “What is that made of?”

The sunlight reflecting off it was so blinding it almost fried her aluminum-alloy eyes1!

“It’s just an ordinary structure with a gold-plated exterior.” The man adjusted his veil slightly, looking at her as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“Just” gold-plated…

Could he not say that so casually, like he was just sprinkling some rice on the ground?

Leng Yiyao’s eyes followed the wall from west to east. The entire thing was coated in gold.

Rich and reckless?

Pooh! ‘Reckless’ wasn’t even enough to describe this level of extravagance!

She almost felt like a true country bumpkin stepping into the big city for the first time.

The man watched as her expressions shifted rapidly—shock, disbelief, contemplation. His curiosity deepened. Not only was she a foreigner, but she seemed to lack even basic knowledge. “This city’s location is unique. For most of the year, it gets less than eight hours of sunlight daily. Artificial lighting can never compare to natural light. So the designers came up with a solution—using gold’s reflective properties to maximize daylight. That’s why the outer city walls were built with a gold-plated surface.”

People in the desert loved gold—it symbolized wealth and prosperity. When this idea was first proposed, it was immediately approved. It took ten whole years to complete this magnificent sight before them.

Dubai’s artificial islands? Child’s play.

The people here were on another level—casually throwing gold onto their city walls like it was nothing, turning the entire place into a giant reflector!

Honestly, if she had been busy ‘slicing vegetables’2 last night, she never would have been able to escape under this glaring sunlight today.

She rubbed her eyes and looked away, marvelling at her luck.

Well, at least if she had to end up in a desert city, it was a luxurious one. And her current body belonged to a wealthy heiress—albeit one who lived in her sister’s shadow, completely overlooked.

Going back home… now that would be interesting.

Leng Yiyao suddenly broke into a feline-like grin, her eyes gleaming like a Persian cat’s. But when the man looked closer, the expression had already disappeared.

“Weren’t we supposed to explore? Let’s go check that place out.” She casually pointed toward a large sign not too far away.

The man halted mid-step, raising an eyebrow. “Are you sure?”

That place… was definitely not somewhere a respectable woman should visit.

“With you around, I doubt they’ll refuse me entry.”

No need to ask why—she was certain this man had money. Not just rich, but the kind that was exaggeratedly rich.
