They met on a blind date. Within an hour, they knew they wanted to see each other again. The thing about blind dates, especially those recommended by family, was that the risk of disapproval was very low. A few more dates later, they found themselves liking the other very much indeed. And so, they decided to get married.
The families were thrilled. Preparations were in full swing. The couple were preparing themselves for married life. But as they met again and again, and shared the same space for longer hours, they discovered a fact fatal to their impending nuptials. They weren’t sexually attracted to each other.
They were aghast. A lot of money had been spent already, but they couldn’t live with each other for the rest of their lives if this was true. They had to pull the plug.
After much drama which would take two thousand more words to describe, the wedding was called off.
The couple parted ways and they became the talk of the town for months to come. But no one thought that two years later, an up-and-coming start-up would win an award and the founders who went up on stage were this very pair.
“We were engaged,” they said. “but money turned out to be better than the grave of marriage.”
