Synopsis:
Qiao Chen strangely enough transmigrated into an interstellar-age world and grew up once again. Then again, for some strange reason, was requested to go to different worlds and search for the soul parts of this world’s military general.
As he hopped into different worlds with the help of a system, he unexpectedly discovered that he transmigrated to his other self in every world.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a coincidental chance or destined arrangement since he has the chance to start over, why not, while he is doing his task (of finding the soul pieces), try to get revenge and fulfilling his other self’s wishes?
Since God gave him the opportunity to change his fate, why shouldn’t he live a pleasing life?
Chapter 1
Qiao Chen went into his kitchen to open the pot of congee that he had prepared the previous night. He poured the porridge into a cup and placed it on the dining table, along with a few side dishes and appetisers.
Even if the world he lived in had changed, he still maintained some habits of his past life. Every morning, he had to drink a bowl of congee with a few side dishes so that his mood would stay pleasant all day long. Moreover, the technology in this world was so developed that he didn’t have to do many things by himself. He only had to set up the equipment and the cooking would not only be fast but also tasty.
After leisurely enjoying his breakfast, Qiao Chen drove his hovercar to his workplace, the hospital.
Qiao Chen was a doctor in both his lives. Why did he have two lives? Because he had transmigrated into this world.
In his past life, Qiao Chen was an orphan. He had relied on his own efforts to complete his studies in medical school and became a doctor. When he occasionally recalled this period, he remembered that he had suffered a lot.
After more than a dozen hours of surgery, Qiao Chen took a short break and went to the bathroom. He used the toilet and washed his hands before the sink as usual but suddenly, a vortex appeared within the mirror on the wall and sucked his soul into it. When his soul went into the vortex, he could clearly see his body going soft and falling on the ground.
When he woke up, he had become a baby in an orphanage. But unlike in the previous life, this was an interstellar world. There was no planet called earth in this time and space. Perhaps it might have been there in the past, but it had been long forgotten.
In this time-space, almost everyone had certain abilities. A person’s ability determined their career. Qiao Chen’s ability was healing so in this world, too, he was destined to be a doctor. Since he had a good ability index, he received good treatment in the orphanage of the Imperial Star.
Whenever something becomes rare, it becomes precious. The same is the case with people. There were very few people who had the ability of healing by birth, so the medical profession was very respected in this world. Qiao Chen, who had a medium ability index was able to get a job in a public hospital as a doctor.
Once Qiao Chen visited the wards, he went back to his office to go through the cases under him.
Qiao Chen’s assistant, Mary, brought a cup of coffee and placed it on his desk and reminded him, “Dr Qiao Chen, the patient’s family in the VIP room no. 4 has an appointment with you at 10.10am today.”
“I know,” Qiao Chen displayed the case of the patient in the VIP room on the screen.
When Qiao Chen was in the Imperial Star Orphanage, he had no name, only a number. The children would be helped with getting their own name once they reached a certain age. Qiao Chen was too lazy to think of a new name for himself and so, used the name of his previous life. As an orphan, you could choose any name you liked. If you were happy with it, you could name yourself ‘Fighter’ too.
This was not a joke. A boy with whom he shared a room at the orphanage really took on that name because he was obsessed with the martial arts of the ancient times.
But there was no mistake that fighting and combat was already a thing of the past and now, the battles took place with airships and mechs.
Qiao Chen observed the case of the patient in VIP room no.4. He felt that the family was panicking unnecessarily. The patient had no big problem at all, but he had lived in the hospital for several months and refused to be discharged.
One must know, this hospital’s VIP room’s cost was not small, but who made these people have too much money on their hands?
Qiao Chen felt that no matter in which time-space, money always ran the world. Just as he was thinking this, the door of his office suddenly opened and a dozen soldiers quickly entered.
Qiao Chen took a quick look at the time. This was 30 minutes before the agreed time and he had only heard of the family of VIP Room No. 4 was involved in business. He hadn’t heard of them having anything to do with the military. Knowing that these people wouldn’t have come for anything good, Qiao Chen cautiously stood up and looked at them.
When a man with greying hair at the temples walked in, he knew that the head of the soldiers present had finally come in. The soldiers immediately closed the door of his office and this action was done fluidly.
“You must be Dr Qiao Chen, am I right?” Although the person who spoke had greying hair under his military cap and had quite a lot of wrinkles on his face, but his posture and his uniform made him look very dignified and refined.
“Yes, that’s me. And you…?” Qiao Chen quickly tried to recall which of his patients had relations with the military.
“We are the soldiers of First Legion. We have some matters which we have to bother you with. Please take a trip with us.” Although the words of this person were quite polite, the tone was such that his words couldn’t be refuted. Having finished his persuasion, he looked at Qiao Chen from the side.
First Legion?! Qiao Chen was shocked. The First Legion was the highest military power under the emperor. When did he ever get involved with these people?
Although Qiao Chen didn’t want to, he knew that he didn’t have the power and opportunity to refuse, because if these people killed him and arbitrarily accused him of a crime, no one dared to stand up for an orphan without a background.
Qiao Chen reached the base of the First Legion with a hovercar of some of the higher-ranking officers. He had never thought that he would see such a spectacular display in his life. The scenes in the CGI-generated blockbusters couldn’t compare to even a per cent of this scene. One look, although for only a few seconds, was enough to stun him speechless.
He followed the officer through an electric door. When the door opened on both sides, Qiao Chen saw a semi-circular laboratory which was enough to accommodate thousands of people. There were hundreds of small to big walls on which there were display screens showing different data. Dozens of people, mostly scientists, were busy working with these screens. The sudden entry of the officer and Qiao Chen did not affect them.
The officer took Qiao Chen into a cylindrical glass elevator at the centre. The elevator moved up and stopped, allowing them to enter another room.
It was a luxurious, tastefully decorated room. Separating the living room and bedroom were large curtains. The officer opened the curtains and Qiao Chen saw a big bed and beside the bed, were several medical implements.
An unusually handsome man lay on the bed and his fit and masculine figure could be seen through the thin quilt. Even if he lay there quietly, one could feel his majestic aura. Qiao Chen guessed that the man must have fallen into a deep coma and so he required so many medical instruments and equipment to sustain his life.
“This is General Ào Nán’ān Délǐ who was injured in his last battle. He has been in a coma for more than a year.” The officer told Qiao Chen.
Qiao Chen could no longer suppress the shock in his heart. The calm facade on his face completely crumpled. He looked at the man on the bed incredulously.
General Ào Nán’ān Délǐ was the highest authority in the military, and in the entire empire. He was also the only person who could drive an AA-class mech and was considered the guardian of the empire. No other foreign country dared to attack because his existence was a deterrent to them.
More than a year ago, the Fen Jia La Empire which had developed a very powerful weapon against the AA-class mech was defeated by the general’s attack. In that battle, although the Fen Jia La empire ended in a disastrous defeat, did the general, known as the God of the Empire, also fall?
If this news was leaked, the people of the empire would fall into a panic and other countries would likely take the opportunity to attack.
“Why me?” This was something that puzzled Qiao Chen after he recovered from the shock. The general had been in a coma for more than a year, that was the biggest military secret of the empire. He was just an ordinary doctor. Why did they want him to know this?
“Because we need your help to wake the general up.” The officer’s expression was serious and his eyes were firm as if he wasn’t fooling him.
“My ability index is only medium and I can’t manipulate these complex equipment. I’m afraid I don’t have the skills to rescue the general.” Qiao Chen said this because he knew that the First Legion would definitely get the military doctors with the highest power index to treat the general. Since those doctors had worked hard for the general and if even they couldn’t wake him up, how was he to do it?
“Since we looked for you, it must be because you can do it. You don’t have to control any equipment. Your job is something else.” The officer led Qiao Chen to the sofa outside the curtains and sat down, preparing to have a detailed discussion with him.
“After the general fell into a coma, we used all kinds of treatment methods. The general’s physical injuries have healed, but no matter what, he won’t wake up. We invited the most powerful scientists and doctors of the empire to study how to rescue the general. After a great amount of effort for half a year by the strongest people in their respective fields, they found that the reason why the general could not wake up was that his soul was trapped in a different time-space. His soul was not able to return. We need you to go to all these different time-spaces to bring the general’s soul back.”
If Qiao Chen’s soul hadn’t travelled to this world, he would not have believed this statement at all. How could it be possible to bring people’s souls back from a different time-space?
“Why do you think I can do it?” Qiao Chen was suddenly a little guilty. Did they know that he was a transmigrated soul?
“Six months ago, we began comparing the brainwaves of every person in the empire with the brainwaves of the general. After repeated comparisons, we found that only you are most suitable to smoothly travel to other time-space to encounter the general’s soul.”
It was no wonder that their hospital started to test the brainwaves of all doctors six months ago. The military was already monitoring him from then. This idea made Qiao Chen shudder.
Qiao Chen wanted to refuse. Even though he had already passed through once, he didn’t know under what circumstances it had happened. Now that it was necessary to artificially cross, who knew whether there would be an accident. But now that the officer had told him everything, he had to be prepared to do what they asked. They weren’t asking for his opinion. They were just informing him about it.
“If you want to go to a different time-space, how can you go? Is there any danger?” Qiao Chen knew that he had no power to refuse. He already knew the biggest secret of the empire. Even if he didn’t agree, they would find a way to make him agree. But in order to understand the situation, he must ask clearly.
“To enable the soul of the qualified person to go to a different time-space, we created a system called the soul shuttle and in this system, we have set up a lot of programs that will help you bring back the general’s soul. It will connect with your brain giving you a variety of knowledge of this universe of a billion years. As for safety, you don’t have to worry about it. After all, in the entire empire, only you meet the criteria. To save the general, we will do our best to ensure your safety.”
“Can I refuse?” Qiao Chen asked with a list hint of expectation. He was not a noble person to rescue the general by sacrificing his soul and saving the empire. He had nothing at all. Although he usually communicated in a gentle way, he was very clear about the degree of indifference in his heart.
“According to our investigation of your past, I know you are a smart person. Whether or not you can refuse, don’t you know it in your heart? If you can successfully bring back all the generals’ souls, I can promise you to wait for the general to wake up, and the generals will let the emperor kneel to give you a title.
“If you can successfully bring back all of the general’s souls, I can promise you that when the general wakes up, he will make sure that you receive a title. And we set up a program in the system to increase the ability index. Every time you successfully complete a task in a time-space, your ability index will increase.”
Qiao Chen sighed in his heart. This was the beginning, luring the prey. If that didn’t work, next would be intimidation. Anyway, the final result would be the same. There was no need to tear face with them.
“Then, I don’t want a title. You can give me a sum of money directly.” Although a title would be a matter of glory for ordinary people, Qiao Chen had no intention of squeezing into the upper class. It was better to take the money and travel around the universe.
“Okay, when the time comes, money or title, you can choose.”
The officer readily agreed to Qiao Chen’s request. It seemed that he was an important figure on the side of the general.
