Leng Weiran paused slightly when he heard his daughter mention her brother. His gaze flickered toward the family doctor standing motionless nearby.
The doctor immediately lowered his head and started packing up his things. “Er xiaojie, if you feel unwell, just call for me anytime. I have some matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave now.”
He didn’t need the master of the house to remind him when to exit. It seemed he was getting slower with age. Blame it on himself for being too engrossed in the drama just now.
While silently reflecting on his own lack of awareness, he sped up his movements to tidy up.
The butler, who had apparently been waiting outside the whole time, opened the door at once, allowing the doctor to leave. The other servants, sensing the shift in atmosphere, discreetly followed suit.
Soon, only the three of them remained in the room.
“You and your brother have never gotten along. Why are you asking about him?” Now that the outsiders were gone, Leng Weiran sat down on the sofa, quietly observing his daughter.
Had he imagined it, or had her tone just now carried a hidden meaning?
Leng Yiyao smiled faintly, barely restraining the urge to roll her eyes.
Not getting along with her brother? What an understatement. She didn’t get along with anyone in this house.
“Just bored. Nothing much. Had some free time.”
Since he clearly wasn’t willing to play along, she couldn’t be bothered either.
Adjusting her torn robe to cover her waist wound, she dusted off invisible specks from her clothes and stood up with a relaxed smile. “I’m not feeling well. Heading to bed now.”
“Wait a minute!”
Leng Weiran’s temples throbbed as he watched her indifferent attitude. Suddenly, he understood why his eldest daughter had been so on edge earlier.
What had happened to her outside?
She was acting so indifferent, so unfazed—completely unlike before.
In the past, she had always spoken to him properly, never raising her voice. But now, she was practically shoving a fake smile in his face, waiting to see him slip up.
“Speak properly!” he snapped.
Leng Yiyao lazily pointed at the broken coral sculpture on the floor. “I was trying to speak properly. But since you won’t even be honest with me, what’s the point of me beating around the bush?”
She didn’t even bother using formal speech anymore, referring to him directly.
Honestly, she found the Leng family’s patriarch far too full of himself.
She was doing him a favour by showing him the way, and he didn’t want it?
Fine, then. Not her problem.
Leng Weiran’s expression shifted subtly. He stared at his daughter with an odd look, taking a long moment to process her words.
“You know that these things were meant to be delivered by your brother?”
Leng Yiyao let out a short laugh, looking at him like he was an idiot.
“Not only do I know he was the one delivering them, I also know who he was delivering them to.”
Leng Weiran’s face visibly darkened.
In the blink of an eye, his expression turned as still as a lifeless pond.
Apart from his deep, penetrating gaze fixed on her, his face showed not a single emotion.
Leng Yirou, watching her father’s face become void of expression, felt a chill run down her spine. She knew better than to interrupt their conversation now.
“You know… who it was meant for?”
Leng Weiran didn’t even lift his eyelids as he asked the question, his tone eerily calm.
Yet, the temperature in the room seemed to drop to freezing.
Leng Yiyao’s lips slowly curled into a smirk.
Now he was acting like a true old fox.
Why waste time pretending to be a caring father? All that affectionate nonsense—what was the point?
Wouldn’t it be much more efficient to just get straight to the truth?
Did he think she had all the time in the world to play father-daughter bonding with him?
“I don’t just know who he was sending it to.”
She flicked her fingers lightly, looking straight at him with a bright, almost amused smile.
“I also know that if he really delivers it—then by this afternoon, the Leng family will be finished.”
Across from her, the person’s face changed drastically in an instant…
